There is a pack in the bathroom cabinet. You bought it for a flight, or a bad week, and now it comes out two or three nights in seven. You snap the tablet in half because a whole one leaves you wrecked until lunch. You have been meaning to find something else.
Settl is that something else for a lot of people, and it is also not a sleeping tablet, so it is worth being precise about the difference before you decide.
Settl is a nightly sleep powder. One scoop in cold water before bed. It is built to get you to sleep faster, wake less at 3am, sleep deeper and wake up refreshed. There is no sedative in it.
The two kinds of tablet
Pharmacy sleep tablets. The ones behind the counter at the chemist. The active is usually doxylamine, an antihistamine that makes you drowsy as a side effect. The pack itself says short term.
Prescription sleeping tablets. From a GP, for a reason, for a set time. If a doctor prescribed yours, keep taking it and talk to them before you change anything. Settl is a food, not a medicine, and nothing on this page is a reason to stop something you were prescribed.
The rest of this page is about the first kind: the pharmacy pack that quietly became a habit.
Side by side
| Pharmacy sleep tablets | Settl | |
|---|---|---|
| How it works | Sedation. It knocks you down | No sedative. Seven actives, each covering a part of the night |
| Getting to sleep | Yes, fast | Yes. 200mg L-theanine, 3,000mg glycine, 50mg chamomile extract 45:1 |
| The 3am wake | Not what it is built for | Built for it. 900mg inositol, 1,000mg sodium hold the back half |
| The morning | Groggy. People describe it as hungover, or wiped out until lunch | Clear. No melatonin, no sedative, nothing to clear |
| The pack's own advice | Short term | Every night, which is the point |
| Dose | People halve the tablet to survive the morning | One scoop, same every night |
| Buying it | Over the counter, with a chat | Online, delivered to your door |
Where the tablet wins
Speed and certainty. A sedating antihistamine will put most people down inside half an hour on a night when nothing else would. For a red-eye flight or one bad night before a big morning, that is what it is for.
Where the tablet stops
Three things, in the words people use.
"Zonked." The most repeated complaint about pharmacy sleep tablets is not the night, it is the morning. The dose that gets you down is still in you at 7am. Hence the halved tablets, and the rule people make for themselves about never taking one on a work night.
It does not hold the back half. Sedation wears off. If your pattern is dropping off fine and surfacing at 3am, a tablet that fixes the first hour was never aimed at your problem. Falling asleep vs staying asleep is the longer explanation.
Short term, says the pack. The tablet is honest about this. It was built for a bad night, not for a nightly routine. Settl is built for the nightly routine, which is the thing most people actually need.
What Settl does instead
No sedative. Seven actives with the dose printed on the tub, each doing one part of the night.
| Part of the night | In the scoop |
|---|---|
| Getting to sleep | 200mg L-theanine, 3,000mg glycine, 50mg chamomile extract 45:1 |
| Staying asleep | 900mg inositol, magnesium glycinate at 146mg elemental, 200mg potassium |
| Waking up clear | 1,000mg sodium, so eight hours without water does not wake you dried out and needing to get up. No melatonin, no morning fog |
Zero sugar. No proprietary blend, so the amount on the label is the amount in the scoop. Packed in Sydney, in a TGA-licensed GMP facility. Full panel on the ingredients page. Why Settl has no melatonin covers why there is nothing sedating in it at all.
One more difference that matters more than it sounds. A tablet is swallowed and forgotten. A scoop in cold water takes a minute, and that minute becomes the signal that the day is finished. Customers tell us the ritual is half of it. The wind-down routine is how to build the rest.
Who should keep which
Keep the tablet in the cabinet for the flight and the one-off. It is good at that.
Swap your nightly habit to Settl if the pack has become routine, you are halving tablets to survive mornings, or you fall asleep fine and still wake at 3am.
On a prescription? Talk to your doctor. Not us.
